Maa Chanchala Devi Mandir
DirectionLocated on the Koderma-Giridih highway, the Maa Chanchala Devi temple is perched on a 400-foot hill in Markacho block. It is dedicated to the goddess Durga. There is also a large cave with petroglyphs depicting four forms of Goddess Durga. It is difficult to enter the cave as the passage is very narrow. A large number of devotees come here on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Rice and mishri are offered to the deity as prasad. However, the use of sindoor is prohibited. Many weddings, mundan and other ceremonies are held here. Located 33 km from the district headquarters, the place has a picturesque setting with dense forests and hills all around. It is said to be over 200 years old. A staircase has been built, but the steep slope makes the walk arduous.
